I'm Dave and I'm just looking for friends with common interests to chat with online. I've been spending less time online lately, so please be patient. I always respond to thoughtful and respectful messages.
I'm sensual and connected to the Earth, but also very spiritual.
In October of 2012, I underwent a very serious brain surgery which left me half-blind, followed by radiation treatments in 2013 which seemed to have been successful, but were not. I took another round of much stronger radiation treatments in Nov., 2014. So I’m still recovering from those and then had a recent total physical collapse and more vision loss in Jan., 2015 also due to those 2nd-round treatments, but hanging in there.
Still here to talk about it and the challenges it has presented to me. No doubt, there are others of you out there who can relate to the seriousness of this kind of thing. Please don't hesitate to say hi and make introductions if you're in need of some encouragement or would like to offer some words of support yourself. A surprisingly few words can make a big difference in someone’s life.
In August of 2014, I competed in freestyle wrestling at the Gay Games and received a silver medal (and a couple of broken ribs). Although I wouldn't say I "won" the medal, I can say that I did EARN it through the years I spent training, then the interruption of everything by my surgery, followed by the long road of recovery back to training and finally competing.
My hobbies and interests include a lot of things. I like crafting mostly with crochet and make all kinds of works from rugs, to garments, bath items, kitchenware, blankets, etc. I write and play big band jazz professionally. Saxophone is my main instrument and I also play classical piano. My main job is greenhouse management and I specialize in food plants and herbs, but also do a lot of work with flowering plants.
I like to cook a lot and learned since I was a kid. I have been a vegetarian and pretty much exclusively vegan for a long, long time. I like ethnic food mostly. Although I'm not a traveled person, I like different cultures and different kinds of people and their foods. Recently, I went mostly gluten free, which is an interesting diet. The pizza crusts are wonderful. High-rising yeast breads are challenging, but okay. Biscuits are really easy and sweet breads, and pancakes. Everything else, sauces, puddings... superior. Nice to be able to beat things without having to worry about activating the gluten. It's just that the bread-breads aren't the same as with wheat where you want that gluten.
I do canning and make pickles and sauerkraut and applesauce and freeze greens and beans from my organic garden. I like to have people come to visit to share these things with. I also make a lot of vegan cheeses. So if anyone is wondering why dairy free is important and actually quite easy, you can ask me. I am a big lover of cheese.
I’m an old-time radio, television show, and sit-com fan. Some of my favorites are “My Favorite Husband” with Lucille Ball (way better than “I Love Lucy” in my opinion), Amos and Andy (great writing, besides the sordid history lesson), Burns and Allen….. these really are a treat since I am a big fan of double entendre…. “Three’s Company” and “Are You Being Served?” naturally follow. ;) I like science fiction too: “X Minus 1”, “Doctor Who”, “The Outer Limits”, “One Step Beyond”, “Flash Gordon”. Please throw in some mysteries too: Suspense, Broadway's My Beat, The Whistler, of course Charlie Chan movies and Sherlock Holmes. For old time radio, I recommend 20thCenturyRadio dot com, mostly shows, and KCEA from CA, mostly music.
Thanks in advance for your messages. Please, if you'd like a response, be sure to introduce yourself so I know your name, and that your accompanying pic is G-rated. I'd prefer to call you "Tom," "Dick," or "Harry" over "BozoTheClown69." In this day of "smart" phones and the like, people seem to be forgetting their abilities/obligations to pay common courtesy to each other. It's still important though; it really is......
Ask me about:
Oh..... I guess anything that you'd like to know more about.
