Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart Returning to Broadway

We've seen them spar as Prof. Xavier and Magneto in the X-Men movies. But until now, only London audiences have seen the friends and beloved British actors pal around as the duo in Sam Beckett's Waiting for Godot. Now it seems Broadway audiences will get their chance when they reprise their roles this fall (they previously performed the play at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2009). But wait! You get a double whammy: They will also star in Harold Pinter's No Man's Land, which will be performed in rep. That's a whole lot of theater.

The last time Waiting for Godot was on Broadway was in 2009, when Bill Irwin and Nathan Lane played the absurd main characters Vladimir and Estragon in the Tony-nominated revival.

As Theatermania helpfully points out: "Ian McKellen made his Broadway debut in Arbuzov's The Promise in 1967 and won the Tony Award for his performance in Amadeus in 1981. And Drama Desk Award-winner Patrick Stewart first appeared on Broadway in Peter Brook's A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1971. We also loved him in the 2008 production of Macbeth that transferred there after first taking place on the BAM stage.

For those not as familiar with Pinter's No Man's Land, it hasn't been on Broadway since a 1994 production starring Christopher Plummer. The play introduces two writers, Hirst and Spooner, and invites the audience to consider whether they really know each other or they are performing an elaborate charade.

For a taste of how the duo do on stage, watch the clip of them doing a sassy shuffle below:
