“They had 25 horse hearts,” Emilia Clarke says. “And I ate so many of them. It was really disgusting. They were basically just Jell-O covered in bleach. All the outtakes are of me genuinely retching into a bucket. It was in no way glamorous.”
That's how the 25-year-old actress describes a pivotal scene that skyrocketed her to fame and cult status in HBO's Game of Thrones, which returns for its third season March 31. As Daenerys Targaryen, a.k.a. Khaleesi (and the Mother of Dragons)—the young virgin who is sold by her brother to the king of a barbaric clan of nomads and later becomes their merciless leader—Clarke is often ruthless (and naked). So maybe it's not a surprise that she brings those same characteristics to her turn as Holly Golightly on Broadway in Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Of course, in that role she has lines like: "Everybody couldn’t help but think I was a dyke myself, and of course I was—everyone is a bit," which Clarke relishes. Although the play is not receiving great reviews from critics, Thrones fans are showing up for the gorgeous actress wrapped in "yards of chiffon," as she describes. But they're also sneaking pics of her nude scene in a bath tub with co-star Cory Michael Smith. For all you uber-fans, here's a short clip behind the scenes of Out's exclusive photo shoot featured in the April issue. Read the story, "Capote's Call Girl," here.
