Big Wins for Emeli Sandé, Adele at Brit Awards

By Out.com Editors

Last year we told you Emeli Sandé, a 24-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter, was destined for greatness when we featured her in our annual Hot List. At the time she explained at the time: “I longed to fit into this ‘musical world.' I felt connected to so many places in the world just from hearing music. It was a way I could confess things. It was the one place where I could put all my thoughts, all my feelings.”

Yesterday, accepting the Best British Album statuette, Sandé spoke of herself as "a very unlikely pop star." Now, however, the British pop songstress continues to follow in Adele's footsteps, winning Best British Female and British Album at the Brit Awards. Adele also won an award for the night, Best Single, for her James Bond theme, "Skyfall."

"This is an album I wrote because I didn't have the confidence to say these things in person," Sandé said during her speech. "For me, that so many people have connected with this album and found strength in these words makes me feel incredible and it doesn't make me feel as lonely."

Sande's debut album, Our Version Of Events, was the most popular album of 2012 in the UK, selling 1.4 million copies. It still hasn't had quite the impact Stateside, but we can hope!
