Free Comic Book Day
Saturday, May the 4th, will be one of the biggest days for geeks in 2013. The day marks the annual global geekfest known as Free Comic Book Day — a day set aside by comic book retailers and publishers each May to promote the comics industry by providing free comics to fans at local shops.
As if that wasn’t reason enough to hit your local comics store this Saturday, the howl-worthy Hugh Jackman has starred in a video reminding us of the importance of the comics industry and the movies that are based on the characters and stories they produce. However, I can’t help thinking his message would reach more people if he did the video shirtless.
May the 4th Be With You
In recent years, May the 4th has also become an excuse to celebrate the wonderful universe of Star Wars for many fans. (Why not?) And if you’re planning to throw a little themed party of your own, these tips may come in handy.
Back in My Day…
I was recently reminded how great the '80s TV commercials were for the original G.I. Joe comic from Marvel when a friend of mine sent me the link for the below compilation. Not only were they animated by the same company responsible for the cartoon series we know and love, Sunbow, many of the voice actors from the show were used in these advertisements as well. It’s a shame comics companies aren’t promoting books like this anymore.
This was truly the golden age of comic/product tie-ins.
And Completing This Week’s Hugh Jackman Sandwich…
An additional minute of footage from The Wolverine was relased this week and features more shirtless goodness from the Aussie actor, as well as several character cameos that comic fans will love.
