PICS: My Big Gay Mayan Wedding

By Gay.net Editors

Oasis Sens, a gay-friendly hotel and "pleasure resort" in Cancun, recently hosted a beautiful ceremony based on traditional Mayan wedding rituals, tailored to two men.

The grooms dressed in white and, in front of the couple, the shaman or Mayan priest evoked the four elements — water, earth, wind, and fire — so that their presence may strengthen and bless the union for many years.

The Mayan wedding ceremony is often chosen for its simplicity, originality, and deep meaning. Same-sex marriages are legally performed in Mexico City and the state of Quintana Roo, where Cancun is located, although many people think of these ceremonies as more symbolic or spiritual and receive legal marriage licenses in their home countries of origin.

See more photos of the ceremony on the following pages.
