Gay NBA Player Jason Collins Makes 'Time's 'Most Influential' List

By Ran Aubrey Frazier
For the 11th year, Time has announced its 100 Most Influential People in the World, and NBA player Jason Collins has not only made the list — he's featured on one of the magazine's inside covers.

Collins made headlines last year when he came out as gay at the end of the 2012-2013 NBA season. In February, Collins signed with the Brooklyn Nets, becoming the first publicly gay athlete in the NBA.

Time's list, showcasing prominent and powerful people from around the globe, features tributes to the honorees written by guest contributors. Collins's tribute was penned by former first daughter Chelsea Clinton. Among the other honorees are former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, actor-director Robert Redford, Secretary of State John Kerry, and pop sensation Beyoncé, who appears on the outside cover.

The issue hits newsstands April 25.
