DC Comics Hires Homophobe To Write New Superman Series
DC Comics just hired sci-fi writer Orson Scott Card to write a two-part Superman story which would be awesome, if Card weren't such a raging homophobe.
Now there's a petition asking DC to dump the anti-gay author. You see, back in 1985 Card wrote a novel called Ender's Game which is generally regarded as a sci-fi masterpiece. But since then, he has also written an intensely homophobic column explaining how gay marriage will destroy society and a 2008 version of Hamlet in which Hamlet’s gay dad molests all of Hamlet’s friends and turns them all gay... ... because, y'know, that's how all gays are created when you're a science-fiction writer. Molestation. It's imaginative. Or something.
if that weren't bad enough, Card was also a board member of the so-called National Organization for Marriage, an anti-gay group that hates gays under the guise of protecting kids and religious freedom. Gross.
Anyway, it's astounding that DC Comics would hire an anti-gay author to write for a character who ostensibly represents "truth, justice and the American way." Surely DC realized there'd be backlash from gay fans, right?
If not, they're certainly realizing it now.
