It seems like ever since Modern Family premiered back in 2009, viewers have been rooting for the ABC sitcom's gay couple — played by Eric Stonestreet and gay-married Jesse Tyler Ferguson — to tie the knot.
The ACLU even started a petition drive with the slogan "America Wants to See Cam & Mitch Get Hitched."
Now, in light of the Supreme Court’s historic rulings in favor of marriage equality, will we finally see a big gay wedding when the hit comedy returns Sept 25 for a fifth season?
"Well … we deal with gay marriage," cast member Julie Bowen confirms to the Huffington Post. "And that’s all I can say. I’m not allowed to say anything too crazy. I can’t explain how we deal with gay marriage, but gay marriage is now legal and we have one of the most popular couples, Cam and Mitch, and we deal with it hopefully in a funny and original way. And true to the spirit of our show, which is comedy first and message follows. Hopefully that message is explored in some form of intelligent humor.”
So, what you're basically saying, Julie, is that they're getting married.
"I ... I ... I have not seen that! [Laughs.] But they do deal with gay marriage."
