Music Venue Fires Employee for Pro-Gay Shirt

By Michelle Garcia

An employee of a music venue in Tennessee was fired from his job for wearing a T-shirt that read, "I Support Same-Sex Marriage."

Wes Breedwell worked at Rocketown, a music venue and Christian youth outreach facility in Nashville, for seven years, according to Towleroad. He was fired Monday for wearing the shirt.

Upon being fired, Breedwell posted a complaint online, which read, "You cannot wear a shirt to work on an office day or a show day supporting same-sex marriage."

Cmar, a member of the band Hostage Calm, spoke to Breedwell, who said he had felt discriminated against during his work there because he did not identify as Christian. Breedwell also claims that he had been passed over for promotions and raises, likely because of his non-Christian beliefs.

"This shirt represents an idea that all people have the right to live their lives without being told who to love and whose love is more valuable," Cmar wrote in an open letter. "It represents equality under the law. It represents the freedom to choose."
